The International Order of the Blue Gavel, an international association of past commodores of yacht clubs, has as one of its primary missions the support charities. District 27 covers the Chesapeake Bay and this year we are supporting our Wounded Veterans and their Families through the Vets on the Bay (VOB) Foundation. VOB honors our returning wounded veterans and their families by helping them break away from the hospital routine and enjoy a relaxing family day on the Chesapeake Bay. The average stay at Walter Reed Hospital is 18 months, and VOB offers 3 to 4 outings during each May-October boating season. We would like to challenge everyone to help raise funds for this wonderful project during 2010.

We hope to find sponsors for as many as 20 Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) & Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) wounded veteran golfers who are able to play a round of golf. The plan is to place one veteran in each foursome for this event. The cost is $500 per foursome, $125 per player, with all profits going to the Vets on the Bay project.
