"The Saul Brandman Foundation was proud to sponsor last month's 'Vets on the Bay' day boating trip down the Chesapeake Bay to St. Michael's Island," said Joyce Brandman, President of the Foundation that bears her late husband's name. "Any day that we are able to make a positive difference in an injured hero's life is a very good day indeed, and we appreciate the opportunity to serve those who serve our country. The trip was a terrific opportunity for injured veterans to get out of a hospital environment and spend time with their families, outdoors on the water."
Los Angeles businessman and veteran Saul Brandman established The Brandman Foundation in the 1970s to support a variety of charitable causes. The Foundation provides support for more than 100 charities including: The Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Center at Cedars-Sinai Hospital; Jewish Free Loan; Our House; UCLA Pulmonary Project; Cedars-Sinai Pulmonary Project; The Jewish Home for the Aging’s new Westside Project and the new Jewish Home for the Aging’s Research Institute; the Aspen Foundation; International Hearing Dog Foundation; the Israel-American Chamber of Commerce; Ben Gurion University and Hebrew University.
Following Saul’s passing in 2008, his wife Joyce, continues to oversee the Brandman Foundation and expand on its charitable projects.
Owing to Ms. Brandman's connection with the military (her late husband, father and brother all served), The Foundation has recently taken a greater interest in the plight of wounded soldiers. Ms. Brandman has named Ms. P.K. Fields to head of the Foundation's Military and Veteran's affairs Committee, which oversees the Foundation's work with the military service branches.
Fields is the mother of an active duty Marine serving in Afghanistan, several of whose combat buddies have been wounded in action.
